Where does the Data for the Wetland Mapping come from?

The map is a combination of data from freely available sources, primarily USGS maps in the USA.  A grat resource for data is geonames.org

How did you do this?

The map is a combination of data from freely available sources.  The  data on the wetlands was downloaded from the USGS website into a database and then fed into Google Maps based on the state chosen in the dropdown box. A great tutorial on how to do this type of project with Google Maps API and a backend database is here .

I live near a wetland, and its not on your map?

In the USA, most of the data found on the maps are taken from USGS Maps, which often do not have smaller wetlands listed.

What is next for this tool?

We would like to add RAMSAR sites in a similar fashion to encompass important wetlands worldwide.
